Aspirin can potentially help fight Diabetes

Taking aspirin and aspirin-like compounds called salicylates can help obese people produce insulin and potentially stave off diabetes, finds a new study.

Previous studies have shown that aspirin can decrease blood sugar in diabetics. New research conducted by Spanish researchers finds that healthy obese people who take aspirin actually increase their levels of insulin, reducing the chance of developing insulin resistance. During insulin resistance, the body produces too little of the hormone and fails to effectively regulate the metabolism of fats, proteins and sugars. source

But remember this, aspiring is not too soft on the stomach, and if you have stomach ailments like gastritis or ulcer, you must not take aspirin. You may consult your doctor, but I used to have stomach trouble when i was in college, and I was advised by my doctor against any kinds of Aspirin

The Tour de Cure is coming to Birmingham on April 26. The tour, which includes routes for amateur and experienced riders, is also a great way to help people you love who are affected by diabetes. All funds received from the Tour de Cure will go directly to the American Diabetes Association.

Last year’s tour raised almost $13 million nation -wide and this year there are hopes to raise even more to help those suffering from diabetes.

“I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t know anyone with diabetes,” said Amanda Baker of the American Diabetes Association. Diabetes currently affects 20.8 million Americans. The disease has been increasing since 1990 by 61% and continues to increase today. [source]
